Black is Back: 2018 PPG Color of the Year
Every year PPG paints selects a single color as it’s PGG Paints Color of the Year representative. The 2018 color was selected back in June of 2017, but now that 2018 is upon us, it’s time to take a closer look at this year’s color.
Black is back in style for PPG, as they have selected Black Flame (PPG1043-7) as their 2018 Color of the Year. As the color experts at PPG stated in this press release:
“this statement-making black, infused with an undertone of the deepest indigo, evokes the privacy, hope and classic modernism that many consumers crave today. Embodying the spirit of a tailored tuxedo or a little black dress, it is dressed-up, coveted, unapologetic and – most importantly – timeless.”
The color was unanimously selected by PPG’s more than 20 color stylists from around the world, who specialize in industries such as consumer electronics, architectural, automotive and aerospace. These stylists study color trends in industries from building materials to home decor.
“We’re already seeing retailers reinventing the classic black hue in the form of building materials such as wood flooring, black tile, cabinets and window frames, as well as matte black appliances and décor items,”
Black Flame is also the anchor color in the broader 2018 PPG Global Color Trends palettes, which entail four themes. It also allows for a sense of relaxation from the overstimulation of the modern world. A vehicle painted in Black Flame infuses a sense of aggressiveness, but also at the same moment a classic feel that is timeless.
